ASSESSMENTS AT AQUATIC ACHIEVERS
Ability based – age sensitive
One of the reasons why the Solo-1 program works so well is that our children are placed into a class according to their ability in the pool. Children learn best and classes operate well when the students are of similar standard, not necessarily similar size or age.
Correct technique
At your assessment, we will be looking carefully at the technique your child uses to swim. Sometimes this may mean that they begin in a level which is addressing a specific skill, rather than swimming long distances. A good example of this is the breathing action when swimming freestyle. Children may be able to swim with incorrect breathing, however they will struggle to become efficient and strong swimmers over longer distances unless the ‘rolling to breath’ action is corrected.
Performance at assessment.
Often parents will comment that their child can swim better than they displayed at an assessment. This is usually due to the new environment, strange pool or even having a break from swimming for a while. However this is actually an advantage, because it is easier to see what areas a swimmer needs to improve when they are not completely comfortable.
Progression through our levels
We have noticed that it is better for kids to enter our program in a level they feel comfortable in rather than one which they are struggling. As confidence grows and levels are completed, the motivation becomes stronger to then progress to the next level. Our certificate program ensures that kids are rewarded for the effort put into lessons. There is no set time a swimmer has to stay in a level. Sometimes a new student will only be in a level one or two lessons before being moved up. This situation is fantastic as the desire to improve develops.
